The Sanibel & Captiva Islands Chamber of Commerce recently received approval from the city of Sanibel to celebrate Luminary 2021 in traditional fashion on Dec. 3-4.

In its 37th year of bringing holiday cheer to the streets, businesses, residents and island visitors, Luminary will again light up the pathways with candlelight, warm welcome and goodwill.

“We know the business community is looking forward to opening doors once again to residents and guests on this special weekend that has become synonymous with island holidays,” chamber President and Chief Executive Officer John Lai said. “It has been a celebrated occasion for so long that last year, despite all efforts to maintain merry momentum, traditional Luminary was sorely missed.”

As in years past, Sanibel will celebrate Luminary on Dec. 3 and Captiva on Dec. 4.

Besides candle-lined walkways, the festivities will bring live music, decorations, sidewalk sales and other retail deals, and free refreshments. The cherished golf cart parade will return to Captiva; times to be announced.

Last year, Luminary introduced fresh traditions that will continue this year. The tagline “Eat. Shop. Stay. Play,” created specially for the 2020 event, has become permanently woven into the fabric of the chamber’s messaging. Also returning, limited-edition Luminary Lager will be on tap, brewed in partnership with Point Ybel Brewing Company.

“This year, we’re going for a new fresh recipe to keep things exciting,” Point Ybel owner and brew-master Jordan Weisberg said. “We’ve decided to change it up a little every year with different seasonal and fun flavors that are approachable for everyone. Stay tuned for details about the 2021 brew.”

“We invite everyone to don their holiday garb and come out to greet neighbors and new friends in a revived atmosphere of fellowship,” Lai said. “Please, come eat, shop, stay and play all weekend long.”
