Fort Myers Mastersingers to present ‘Messiah and More’ Holiday Concert in Cape Coral
Southwest Florida’s premier choral ensemble, the Fort Myers Symphonic Mastersingers, will ring in the Christmas season with “Messiah and More,” an outdoor holiday concert Sunday, Dec. 13, at 5:30 p.m., at Messiah Lutheran Church of Cape Coral.
The event is free, and a goodwill offering will be taken to benefit a worthy community organization.
The concert will feature selections from the Christmas portion of Handel’s timeless oratorio, “Messiah,” including well-known “And the Glory of the Lord” and “Hallelujah Chorus,” accompanied by the Mastersingers’ Chamber Orchestra.
“Because of its popularity with our singers and our audience, we make the ‘Messiah’ a regular part of our annual programming,” said Mastersingers Artistic Director Shannon Arnold.
The concerts will also include renditions of other Christmas favorites including “I Saw Three Ships,” arranged by Lloyd Larsen and “Jesus, What a Wonderful Child,” arranged by Rollo Dilworth, as well as new Christmas selections such as “To Thee My Heart I Offer,” arranged by Elaine Hagenberg and “The Birth of a Promise,” composed by Diane White-Clayton.
The Mastersingers’ first in-person concert of the 20th anniversary season will follow CDC guidelines and incorporate social-distancing. The concert will be outside, and all choir members will be wearing masks while singing to avoid the spread of COVID-19.
