By Staff | Jan 17, 2013

The ever so popular Fish Drop, which takes place during the annual Kiwanis Club of Greater Pine Island Taste of Pine Island later this month, has an increased grand prize of $2,000, which is $1,000 more than in previous years.

There are 3,000 tickets available at $5 a piece or five for $20. Tickets can be purchased at Capital Bank, Stonegate Bank, the Century 21 office in St. James City, Ad&PrintCraft in Bokeelia and the Pine Island Chamber of Commerce office in Matlacha.

The second place prize winner will receive $500 and the third place prize winner will receive $250 for the fish drop.

For additional locations and information call Chairman Pat Burman at 239-283-0777.

Carlyn Herring, a member of Kiwanis, said the funds that are raised from the Fish Drop sales go into the organization’s charity account, along with funds from the Taste of Pine Island. Those funds support such things as the Junior Olympics, college scholarships, F.I.S.H., Boy Scouts, Beacon of H.O.P.E., many student educational trips, Greater Pine Island Little League, Pine Island Synchronized swimming, Pine Island Elementary School student awards and Bike Path Oasis upkeep.

Taste of Pine Island will be held on Saturday, Jan. 26, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, Jan. 27, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will be held at Phillips Park.

There are still a few vendor spots open for the event. Those interested can call Burman for more information.

The Kiwanis are also seeking volunteers for the event.
