‘Clash of the Irons’ golf fundraiser coming May 14

By CHUCK BALLARO - | May 3, 2022

Last month, the North Fort Myers Civic Association held its annual Wiffle Ball Bash fundraiser, and raised more than $7,000 after expenses to go toward the organization’s scholarship fund.

On Saturday, May 14, starting at 8:30 a.m. at the Cape Royal Golf Club, the second of the “Bash & Clash” fundraisers will take place as the inaugural Clash of the Irons Charity Golf Scramble will be happening.

Registration opens at 7:30 p.m., with the shotgun start happening at 8:30 a.m., and so far, the civic association has 16 teams and plenty of sponsors to make this event perhaps as successful as the Bash and maybe even more so.

All-American Printing and Signarama are again the title sponsors of this event, and the civic association is more than happy to accommodate more sponsors if they choose to participate.

“Portions of the proceeds will again go to our scholarship fund and will also fund other initiatives throughout the year,” said fundraising chairman Doug Dailey. “The other organizations like the Rotary have their golf tournament, so we decided to hold one for the community. It’s going to be a good time.”

The cost is $85 per player and $340 per team, which includes free range balls for practice and a breakfast sandwich before the event, and trophies for the winners and a buffet lunch afterwards.

The event can accommodate as many as 36 teams if needed at the Cape Coral course. Anyone interested in playing or being a sponsor can still sign up.

Players will be able to participate in men’s and women’s longest drive contests and hole-in-one, putting and closest to the pin contests. Players and teams can also purchase mulligans (a do-over) and yardsticks, which will allow you to attempt a putt from closer to the hole.

There will also be silent auction and raffle items and gift baskets donated by local restaurants and other businesses. Signed memorabilia will be available to bid on.
